Why is Supporting Missionaries Important

To answer this question, let's begin with who we are at Crossroads Community Church by looking at our relationships beyond our local church.

Crossroads Community Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, and the Noonday Baptist Association.  Through these, Crossroads helps support missionaries and ministries locally, within Georgia and the United States, and throughout the world.  We also directly support a number of missionaries serving throughout the world.

We at Crossroads also directly financially support local ministries such as the Hope Center and Encompass Ministries.  We are also involved in a ministry to Carmel Elementary School having provided food for their pantry, a freezer, Christmas gifts for over 20 children, paying for the lunches of children who though are not on a free lunch program parents can’t afford the cost of lunch and more.  So, why should't we support only these ministries within our community rather then support missions and ministries outside of our local area?

When Jesus gave the Great Commission, He didn't tell us to reach only our neighborhood—He said, "Go and make disciples of all nations." (Matthew 28:19)

In Acts 1:8, Jesus expanded that vision even further: from our local community to our state, our nation, and ultimately to the ends of the earth.

Most of us will never set foot in Indonesia, Africa, or other distant places. But that doesn't mean we can't have a part in sharing the Gospel there. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 10 that people cannot hear the Good News unless someone is sent.

Jesus commanded His followers to "make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19). Acts 1:8 reminds us that our witness begins in our community but extends to the ends of the earth. While most of us will never travel to distant countries as missionaries. We at Crossroads Community Church support mission "to the ends of the earth" by praying, giving, and sending those He has called. In so doing, we are living out a Biblical mandate to share the hope of Christ with a world that desperately needs Him.
